Regular ads
TikTok's regular ads (also called "in-feed video ads") are the advertising platform's standard ad format. It's compatible with most campaign objectives.
To create these vertical video ads, you can use a compatible video file, and then define:
- An identity (text & logo)
- Ad copy text
- Call to action button
- Interactive add-ons (small interactive widgets on top of the ad creative)
- Landing destination (URL, can be a deeplink for supported objectives)

Spark ads
TikTok's Spark Ads are other platforms' equivalent of "boosted posts", organic posts that are also ready to be used for paid advertising. Boosted posts can be leveraged for your own brands' organic accounts, as well as working with creators and amplifying their message when promoting your brand.
Spark ads can also take the user back to the account's profile page, having the ability to generate profile views, likes, and new followers. Spark ads are a good way to promote an existing post to new audiences, or to grow an account's follower base.
For Spark Ads, you can select an existing TikTok post, plus you can provide:
- Ad copy text
- Call to action button
- Interactive add-ons (small interactive widgets on top of the ad creative)
- Landing destination (URL, can be a deeplink for supported objectives)
In addition to using an existing TikTok post, you can also select a video from the Smartly media library to be used as a spark post. In this case, TikTok will create a new organic post based on your settings, which will be either visible or hidden (dark posts) on the organic TikTok account.

Carousel ads

Good to know
- When launching an automated ads campaign with Smartly, ensure that there is at least one item matching the filtering conditions from your feed at the beginning, even if the ad is in a paused state.
- Premium TikTok ad formats aren't supported in Smartly (Brand Takeover, or Hashtag Challenge...)
